Around 25 little sunflower growers joined our competition: whose sunflower will grow the tallest? with the biggest flower? with the most flowers? the quirkiest flower???
The Second Birthday Celebration of the Antwerp Arms Community Pub in May 2017 was the perfect opportunity to introduce the children into a bit of gardening and growing. The sunflower seeds planted in the big pot and equipped with instructions on how to best look after their sunflower, everyone went home with excitement. Over the course of the next few months we heard stories of slugs eating part of the seedling, birds having a snack of the little plant, it being pulled out by accident, or pulled over when watering,..... but we also heard of success stories of growing flowers!! how exciting!!
The persistence and patience finally paid off in September for our winner Alex who is now enjoying a wonderful bee house! and Cooper was not put off by his first flower being eaten by slugs and planted another one - he is now enjoying some colourful butterflies flying in the wind.
Thank you to everyone and very well done to all our little sunflower growers!!
